Ruminations RUMINATIONS
BY DEACON MCKALE

This Sunday we hear the dramatic story of the resuscitation of Lazarus from the dead, Jesus' seventh and final "sign"/miracle in John's Gospel, the sign that will move many to faith in Christ but the sign that will also prompt the religious leaders to plot His death.

The artist conveys the scene slightly differently than actual text in John 11.  Here Jesus and Lazarus' two sisters actually enter the tomb as Jesus calls Lazarus to come forth.  Perhaps the artist wishes to emphasize that the Lord Jesus comes to meet us in all the places and circumstances where we are "entombed" in our anger and pain, waiting for new life.
